It can't be more than 500 words but I am not sure if I should do 5 paragraph format or not. It would push 500 words i could squeeze it in, I am just not sure if I should do it?

As long as you have good points the paragraphs don't need to be long. I would do the five paragraph essay because its simple and gets the point across. It would help if you told us what the application is for...

well i would keep the 5 paragraph format..and my advice would be map out what you want to put in your essay before you just start writing it

The answer was: He is a dj at a local radio station. (What he was listening to in the car). He had recently found out that his wife was cheating on him, so he went to his wife's lover's house to shoot him. On the way back, he was listening to his radio station, to the segment that he had recorded earlier. (His alibi for the killing). When the radio went to static, or "dead air", he knew that his cover was blown and he had no more alibi. Hence, he shoots himself so he won't get caught. Very complex and tricky, and I'm not surprised that nobody got it. But I have another one that might be a bit easier...I asked it today--go check it out. =)
