Eva Peron

She was an ambitious actress on stage, screen and radio when she married Juan Domingo Perón in 1945. He was already a leading military figure in Argentina, with a wide following; in 1946 he was elected to the presidency. While First Lady, Eva virtually ran the ministries of labor and health and fought vigorously for women's voting rights. Popularly known as Evita, she became immensely popular with the public. Her untimely death from cancer at age 33 helped cement the almost mythical proportions of her popularity.

Katharine von Bora Luther, wife of the reformer Martin Luther.

She was interesting in her own right, having been a nun who left her convent after studying some of Luther's writings. Eventually she married him, and they had, I think, six children.

Her influence was primarily in demonstrating that clergymen could also be husbands and fathers, and her claim to fame, I suppose, could be in being the first of a long line of women who made Protestant parsonages homes.

Grimke sisters. My AP US history teacher loveeed them. They "were 19th-century American Quakers, educators and writers who were early advocates of abolitionism and women's rights."

They are pretty sweet because you can look at them from two angles, but you can also try to find the commonality in their two causes.
