Since hearing people think in words in their heads, how do the deaf think? Do they see signs in their heads? My dad's a very visual learner and he thinks in pictures at times, but still, if you concentrate on a picture in your mind, you'll name what you're seeing. Does anyone know? It's hard to if you're not deaf.

Deaf people hear words in their heads. It is hard to explain. I have an aunt who is Deaf and a lot of Deaf friends. Some Deaf people think with words because naturally your mind knows sounds of words even though they might not be able to hear them. Then also some say they think in sign it all depends on the person. I dont think they really sit down and think about how they think if you know what I mean.

In regards to the guy above about if the Deaf can read? Of course they can read there is no reason that they wouldn't be able to read unless they didn't go to school but in many of the school systems now Deaf children are in regular classrooms with hearing children.

I hope this helps you and if you have anymore questions about the Deaf and their culture let me know!!

People who are deaf think by using imagery and feelings as well as by memory recall. Yes, people who are deaf can read and they can also write. They are not limited in what they can do unless it involves having to audibly hear sounds and or words. Reading and writind involves spelling. If deaf people could not read why would they need the alphabet?

Probably images more than words. Linguists studying this do note that one's ability to develop new ideas is limited by the ability of one's language to describe them.
Which would explain why so many English speakers (half million word vocabulary) have so many ideas.

I used to wonder about that, and things like how do blind people perceive colour?

And if a psychic was reading someone of another language, what language would the psychic *hear*?
