It's easy. It's cheap and you don't need a lawyer. Go to your equivalent of small claims court and tell them what you want. They have pre-printed fill-in-the-blank forms. You fill out the forms, file them with the court and give a copy to the tenant or post it on the tenant's door. If it's for non-payment of rent, they get 3 days notice. If it's for another reason, they get 7 days notice. In my state, you can download the forms and the law. Try FindLaw.com or try the Illinois State Judiciary website. I know you can find the forms on line, but I don't know what your state court website is called. The name of the law is the "Uniform Owner Resident Relations Act". I can't remember the cost of filing this in Illinois. It's $65 in my state. Supposedly you can make the tenant pay the Court costs, but usually it's not worth the effort. BTW, if they fight you and you need an attorney, this is one of the types of cases where you can get your attorneys fees back from the tenant, too.

if the persons lease is up then you can tell him he has to move in 30 days and put it in writing. if the lease is still in force then you need to go to court and have them do it. the court still will give him at least 30 days to move although one person that was evicted from a house my work owned, was given 3 months to move and they didn't even have to pay the rent!!!
