If your sister is having heavy mentstrual periods she needs to see a doctor. Make sure she is getting regular check ups and continues to. This could be a sign of large polyps in her uterus, cysts, or even cancer. Please make her a doctors app.

depo-lupron--it's a monthly shot that stops/lightens your period, depo-provera--it's a 3 month birth control shot that lightens the period as a side effect and by the second or third shot, 80 percent of women don't menstruate...also there's a medicine over the counter now that's on commercials and it makes your period only last for 3 days or less. My question is why are you asking for your sister? Why does your sister tell you about her period? Sorry, but that's just kind of weird.

Actually the menses are composed of a miniscule amount of blood; the rest of the "stuff" that comes out is water and tissue of some sort. Its basically the lining of the uterus in prepreation for pregnancy. But anyways enough review.

Periods are erratic in amounts of "blood" that the body expels. You cant really reduce it but you can make it go a little faster. Drinking water regularly and exercising are some key ways to do so.

As far as I know the only effective way to reduce/control it is to go on birth control, but that can have other effects. If it's a serious problem for her she should talk to her gynocologist. Hope this helps.
