Please help everyone, only got 2 days to write 2,500 words. I have defined Gender & community work but it's putting it together, relating the two that I'm having probs with. I know women are often more caring than men, but Community Work has a lot of room for men to Organise, with fundraising, people management etc., I just don't know how to say it in a way that is AMAZING xx

There is no reason why a man should not do it, the same that a woman can do anything. As I have said many, many times before, the having or not a winkle or boobs does not, and should not be a prerequisit for a job.
Is that good enough?

the main problem that there is revolves around not the community workers, but the people they help. A LOT of people carry stereotypes and opinions about the different genders and in fact discriminate against others mostly unknowingly. If you asked these people, they would tell you that they are all for equality.
People feel more comfortable with their own gender when dealing with these kinds of things. If you are working with mainly women, men may find it difficult to relate to the issues and the women may find it hard to talk to the men about their issues.
Sames goes for the other way round of course.

Women are only more caring than men because we expect them to be. Men can be just as empathetic as women, just as women can be just as good with the organizing and fundraising. In fact, I know plenty of men who are even better at the intuitive stuff than most of my women friends, and I know just as many activist men as I do women. The genders are really not that different.

There are men in community work, gender makes no difference except in special situations such as rape counseling. Some clients prefer to talk to a man, especially an older man.

Community of dogs! I volunteer at my local SPCA as a dog walker/socialize/trainer. No cats; cats are a woman's animal. I would never volunteer to help people, but I surely am doing community work. When I see a good adoption match between a dog that I have sweated over and it's new human companion I am content. I do not have any womanly rush of emotion, or girly flush of giddiness, but a manly feeling of " a job well done "
PS dogs good; people, eh.

I feel it really depends on the type of person you are working with, for example I feel a battered wife would prefer to talk with another woman. That is not to say an empathic man could not work with her.
