well, find several examples of rich successful respected people who have had it done, and tell your parents that you too can be like them if you get your lip pierced. It would be better to find someone they have heard of, and approve of, not some kind of gutterscum hoodlum or something. Good luck.

I'm with your parents on this one! I don't think there is any reason you could ever give to help me change my mind. Apparently your not satisfied with your normal looks. Is there not something else you can change besides adding a ugly ole lip ring to the face of yours? Apparently there is reason why you think your "PERSONALITY" isn't good enough the way it is! Perhaps friends are getting them..really seriously..it's ugly!! I personally would like you less. Some people can't even stand looking at the nasty piercings that people do to themselves! I'm one of them! Personality isn't in the way you look. Being hideous is. I think your looking for independence. Something to show that you actually made a big decision about who you are. You must still be young as to have to abide by the parents rules. I'd suggest there being something else such as a later curfew or a later bedtime..or no bedtime at all that would give you that satisfaction. Keep your look clean! You'll just look at it way down the road and know you were stupid to do it in the first place.

A pierced lip to help you build your personality? Hope you have better arguments than that. I'd say just do it, you'll get grounded for like a week, but I'm sure you'll wear your ring for longer than that. If your dad is already considering letting you do it, he shouldn't be too hard on you. Think about it, a piercing denotes a bit of a rebellious personality, and if you're trying to build your personality like you say, the best way is to go against what your parents say, don't you think?

LOL! The reason you have to ask this question is because you don't have a good reason. That is because - THERE ISN'T ONE! Every teenager in the world wants to pierce or tattoo some part of themselves. I will tell you the same thing I told my 14 year old daughter - get a job! People that want to be taken seriously, do NOT pierce their face, tattoo themselves or dye their hair pink - until they have lived in reality for a while. And then, they are either tattoo artists, famous or making $5.50 at McDonald's. (But they all do have jobs!)

First of all, I need to know your age.... If you are under 18 and ur dad says no, you will have to wait until you are old enough, I understand that young people want to do whats cool or in fashion, but its hard for parents to give you an OK because the piercing will leave you a hole in your skin :) If they tell you no, is not because the are not cool, but because they love you, and ... if you are over 18 and have your own job, (even if its a part time one) you can make ur decision but its good to let your parents know just out of courtesy!!! but keep trying, if it is something you really want, you might convince him!!! Good Luck!!!

Why you so eager to look like an idiot. Don't ruin your health because you think its "cool". If you think material things are what will help you "build your own personality" you are way off. Don't worry about building your personality, it'll build itself. Infection isn't the major risk, its the long term effects of the piercing, read this link.

okay for one if you need your parents permission you are too young to make a decision that you will like forever...i got my eyebrow pierced when i was 16 and i took it out when i was 17. Its a phase, and if not then keep in your mind that you like it until you turn 18, that gives it a few years and you may enjoy the fact you waited if you dont like it because then you wont have a scar. if you really do want it and you know it show them, ask them how you can show them and dont let them think its a phase. explain in an adult language, if you approach it like a kid they will take you as a child, approach it as an adult and you will get more respect.

If you're too young to have this done on your own, wait until you're old enough. Then you'll look back and wonder why you would have ever wanted to do that in the first place. Believe it or not, parents are you when you get older, you don't get stupider, just more experienced.

I give you credit for discussing it with your parents. And your father is being very generous in his reasoning with you.

You have to ask yourself if it's really important in the grand scheme of things.

Why don't you find a toe ring (the kind that don't quite join and yes new of course) and ask if it's ok to use that on your lip? No peircing but the same effect.

We older people call it, "personality through looks." Which is meant to be taken sarcastically. So, that's why your parents won't let you. Trying to convince them is like trying to convert someone form one religion to another. You just won't be able to do it.

The best you can do is try all you can, but please, don't do it to help develop your personality. Do it because you feel it's a part of who you believe you are and not what your friends are doing.

I highly recommend you watch this online movie. See what you learn from it and see if this helps you with what you are wanting.

Good luck.
