Try Naruto, the untouched Asian version. It's great. The American version is complete trash and gives it a bad rep, so don't watch that version.
I used to watch Anime like Fist Of the NorthStar, Ranma 1/2, etc, then this drout came and all anime sucked for years in my opinion. But when I watched Naruto, after about the 15th episode, I couldn't believe how much I loved Anime again.
Please try it. Also try trigun, it's pretty good. Not Naruto, but good.

something funny? oooh, then you'd love Ouran High School Host Club. Its about this girl named Haruhi that's mistaken for a boy, and after she breaks an expensive vase belonging to a group of wealthy students, is inducted into their club and has to work the debt off. Its silly and the artwork is pretty good. If you want more complex art, the plot is usually darker, like Ghost in the Shell, X, or Trinity Blood for instance.

Hmm...just some recommendations off the top of my head: Samurai 7, Elfen Lied, Bleach. Naruto's okay, just not the dub.

Rurouni Kenshin has always been my favorite. It is an action-adventure thing, and it also teaches one about the past! (a history-class i would love to attend) Kenshin is, well a boy. BUT, he kinda looks like a girl - long ornagey hair, short stature... yah.
RuroKen is very interesting, especially about Kenshin's past...
in all there are 28 manga books.

its pretty good along with inuyasha and like everyone is saying naruto!
ive heard that bleach is reaaaaallly good. the first episodes are boring but i hear it gets good around like 15 or so.
