Emo does not necessarily mean "emotional." It started out as a music genre, in the 70's and 80's. People listening to the style eventually created their own fashion sense, and stereotypes about them being "cutters" and "emotional" soon arose.

emo means emotional
i personally hate how everyone keeps saying how people are "emo". "Emo" is actually a genre of music. It started to become mainstream with my chemical romance and the used ect.

emo is short for emotional, but don't over simplify by labeling them as poets obsessed with death and wearers of only black.
it's mainly a genre of music that has it's influences in not only gothic, but a little punk,grunge,garage,and new wave mixed in. Their are a plethora of bands who could be clumped under the title of emo, but listen well and you will hear a little of all types of music.
many profess to said music to be a bit whiny, but again that can be found in lots of music.
Don't let yourself be chained to stereotypes, just research a little here and there. I'm sure I haven't covered all the bases in what emo is either.

Emo, like emotional. They are like punk or goth. A clique pretty much. Emo is also called scene and emo people are commonly poets, cutters, etc. They usually wear pixie cuts(the hairstyle), black clothes mixed with other colors like lime green, red, and yellow. For footwear they wear chuck taylor high- tops and vans skate shoes. Some are obsessed with death and metal music. God bless ya' and have a good year!

Kind of goth, but not quite. These people tend to like to write poetry, hate their lives and dress in black

emos are people who have a lot of emotion. most of them wear black and lime green and they cut themselves, they also wear skinny jeans and alot of black (makeup,hair,etc) they most likely wear converse or vans and dont care what people think. Emo people listen to music thats about feelings and problems. (hence emotional) some are goth,punk, or poets
