I met someone who told me this idea: if we drill many giant deep holes into the earth, the water would drain into the earth's crust and this would stop rising water from destroying costal cities.
You would have to drill multiple holes in the continental shelf (in shallow water.)
You know that something has to be done.
2 Billion people living in China/India are consuming fuels every day, contributing to global warming.
Your thoughts???

It is probably too late to stop this from coming. That does not mean there is nothing we can do to help the planet from the coming problems, but the melting ice could only be stopped if we can immediately have a scientific breakthrough about energy.
Very likely much of the world's population is going to have to move!

When you drill a hole something happens, it fills with water.
multiple holes could cause the continental shelf to break off.
Causing an earthquake. If global warming doesn't stop and all the ice melts. If the bad storms don't kill us the earth will be covered with 200 feet of water.
the only survivors would be those in the high mountains in South America. Of course, by then global warming would be stopped and Most people would be dead from floods and storms.
The highest mountains are in Pakistan, China, India, but the down side they are all covered with snow.
closer to the equator where you might actually survive, Argentina,
Chile, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador! So the rich and famous should probably be thinking about buying land in Argentina before it goes sky high. No pun intended.
Only mountains on the equator have a chance of surviving.

Your friends'
t elevator doesn't go all of the way up. Drilling deep hole sin the earth will not do anything but allow salt water to more quickly fill areas when we need fresh water in them.
The solution is an immediate reduction worldwid eof population .enforced if neccessary.
To hell with religion we are over populated and if your god tells you to have children you can't afford than get rid of him; He's useless.
We need to stop the silly uswe of fossel fuels for transportation and force the comapnies ot go electric/bypass oil companies. electrical technology is here it's just the companies cannot find a way to charge us for it.

if the water were to penetrate the earth's crust it would meet very hot molten magma and erupt. Not a good idea.

Better to build levees around the cities, like in the Netherlands.

The per ca-pita energy consumption in the USA is far higher, so that the overall energy consumption by the USA is greater than any other nation. Also USA is the biggest polluter (per ca pita and overall)

Drilling holes will only only cause more problems depending on where and how deep you drill. There is still so much about the earth (mainly underwater) that we do not know about and could actually cause more harm by drilling, because you never know what you might hit, or open up.??????

It will never work - there too much water, and we could never drill enough holes or large enough holes.

We just have to face reality and turn out the lights, that is, if we love our kids.

The future will be very different, and it will be much greener. It's about 5 seconds away.

If you are being part of the solution than you are the problem.

This would disrupt the natural currents in the oceans causing more global warming in the long run. Not to mention destroying the eco system and possibly causing some earquakes and tsunamis to go with it. Probably not a good idea.

You drill until you hit the water table. The the water rises up through the giant holes and floods the coastal cities.
