I downloaded an avi movie but windows media player can not play it ,I can hear the movie but no pictures please help

All movies require two codecs; audio and video. It sounds like you have the audio, but not the video codec.
Download a program called "Gspot". This program will analyze a movie file and tell you which codec that you need.
But, I would start off with MPEG-4 and Divx codecs. If you already have this, then there are codec packs that you can download that cover all the popular codecs used.

Ok , thats codec problem , it means that your media player does not have the necessary codec to play the movie , Now go to the microsoft website and download the update plus the new codec

try updating your media player to the latest one
i dont add any extra codecs to my system and i can play anything.
mayby try another player like quick time they all come with the codecs that should play avi
