If you can move it around in all directions, it's likely not broken, but if there is swelling, it MAY be broken or cracked.

There is a fracture called a "stress" fracture which basically means that the bone has been stressed to a point where it almost broke. There could be hairline fracture damage. The best thing to do if you have swelling and pain is to get it ex rayed.

You may see a bruise in either case. Also, look for swelling Most likely if you can move it is not broken but that is not always true. The only way to make sure is to have an x-ray made.

Well Gugie is right and wrong. It could be broken but sprains bruise like crazy. Any serious damage to a joint will bruise. Bruises are broken capillaries under the surface of the skin.

nooo cuz the same thing happened to me. if the bruise is purple or a greenish color and your finger gets wider and you cant bend it far easily or without it hurting, go have it checked. same thing happened to me, and i only had a tiny fracture. but yours could be different. and if it gets worse, until you can get to the doctors buddy tape it or put a craft stick on as a splint. my moms a nurse, so i know this stuff.

if you injured your finger and it turns black and blue, most likely its broken. i have broken a lot of bones including my pinky finger, which all turned black and blue. it also hurt when i went to bend it. you could also have a sprain or fracture.

you have inflammation of the finger, its not broken but if it hurts really bad you may need to go to the emergency room to make sure its not infected, you may need to take some ibprufen to stop the ache if its aching. But no sir its not broken.

most bruises come to the surface eventually, it is not an indication of a break or not
