No, I wouldn't recommend it. You wouldn't want to risk exposing your child to anything harmful through the breastmilk...

Tattoos are created by injecting ink into the dermal (second and third) layer of the skin. Tattooists use a hand-held electric machine that is fitted with solid needles coated in the ink. The needles enter the skin hundreds of times a minute to a depth of up to a few millimeters. The ink that is used in tattoos in the United States is subject to FDA regulation as cosmetics, but none are approved for injection under the skin. However, the ink molecules are too large to pass into breastmilk.

Some tattooists will not knowingly tattoo a pregnant or breastfeeding woman, and recommend to wait a year. However, the ink molecules are too large to pass into breastmilk. Just make sure the person doing the job is certified, and follows strict hygeine procedures to avoid HIV or hepatitis

There is no evidence that getting a tattoo will affect breastfeeding. There should be no harm to mom or baby from the dyes injected. If you get a tattoo, the biggest concern for anyone (not just nursing moms) is infection (hepatitis or HIV)-- so make sure the place you go has good references and is clean.

the ink doesn't circulate, it stays "local." i go for pigments over ink anyway. the health concerns would be hepatitis, etc. find a clean shop that autoclaves and plastic wraps the instruments, or uses new needles and bars for each customer, and has a good reputation.
EDITS: whenever i've gotten a tattoo and signed the paperwork, i don't remember it ever saying anything about breastfeeding....and, they almost always let you watch them set-up. you can ask to see the autoclaved (sterilized) pack, it has tape on it w/ slash marks that turn black when sterilization has occurred. just like they use in hospitals. or you can ask to see them open a new pack of needles and bars...ask lots of questions...they don't mind.

If you are still breastfeeding I think you're too young to get a tattoo.

Why would you risk it??? Why not wait? did you really go through being careful throughout almost 10 months of pregnancy just to jeopardize things by getting a tattoo while breastfeeding?

Sheesh....get over your vanity and wait until it's safe.

im not saying this will happen but if the needle is infected with HIV+ blood then no because the blood will enter your body and the breast milk will pass to your baby so if you are going to do it demand a CLEAN needle
