We could with the right Government,or if we were given a referendum!!! The whole EU thing is costing the UK a fortune!!! I wonder just how many realise the full facts?
By 2007 the combined direct and indirect costs of EU membership will cost Britain close to £100,000 per minute.
Since Britain joined the ‘European Economic Community’ in 1973, Parliamentarians have time and again called for a cost-benefit analysis to prove or disprove the benefits of membership; successive Conservative and Labour governments have consistently refused on the grounds that the benefits are ‘self-evident’.
Set out in the latest Bruges Group research by Gerard Batten MEP the full costs to Britain have now been calculated.
The facts:
Britain has given nearly £200 Billion to the EU since we joined
In 2007 UK taxpayers will be forced to pay £14.2 Billion to the EU
The EU costs every man, woman and child £873 per year
The EU is costing the British economy £50.6 Billion this year, by 2007 this will rise to £52.4 Billion!!!!
If the Government believes that membership of the EU is beneficial to Britain and that we should remain a member, then let it commission an independent and impartial cost/benefit analysis so that the supposed benefits can be proved and the findings openly debated.
The British people should be presented with the full facts and figures so that they can decide if this is what they want, and if the price is worth paying.!! Think of what could be done in this country with that money.!

What with - we have nothing! Our manufacturing infrastructure was sold down the river by Thatcher and her ilk. We have no production - no mining - no nothing. We assemble a few things that come from Europe. How would we survive?

People have to realise that we are a nation of service industries and cannot survive on our own or without the EU migrants. Everything is different now. Even our water was sold off abroad.

It is time to wake up and smell the coffee and not to live in some heyday that has passed.

I think that we should leave the EU and brick-up that tunnel. As a people we are not better off for being a part of Europe, I say leave now and make every effort to grovel to the Commonwealth for the past 30 odd years of neglect, and try our damnedest to build something significant.

We would end up as the 51st state of america which is why the americans spend so much time putting out anti- EU propaganda which you seem to have fallen for.

It will never happen, the whole thing is corrupt. There are gaping holes in the accounts every year, running into billions and nothing is done. You just know there's something wrong with it when Peter Mandelson is involved.
