Look at the publicly available Congressional Financial Abstract... the top 20% income group,in the U.S pays 80% of the taxes.. Anything else you hear is BS...

My 2006 taxes:

Federal Income Tax 26,224.74
Social Security (FICA) 5,840.40
Federal Medicare 1,917.10
California Income Tax 7,998.70

Total 41,980.94

I pay income taxes. Well kinda I'm self employed, & get tons of right-offs, so if do have to pay it aint much.

Historically, I've paid around $4,000 a year, so I guess I qualify as one who really pays. Forgive me, but your question seems kinda dumb as currently phrased. I think 'chulita' (the first answerer) couldn't have said it better. Hopefully, you're not one of those people who think the rich don't pay. They pay more, by far, than people like me.

go to the post office and get a 1099 booklet. look at the tax charts. they will tell what tax is owed on what taxable income.
