alt + 3 = ♥
alt + 4 = ♦
alt + 5 = ♣
alt + 6 = ♠
alt + 7 = •
alt + 8 = ◘
alt + 9 = ○

Those symbols are called "character entities." Entities are enclosed between an ampersand (&) and a semi-colon (;).

For the heart, put "#9829" between the ampersand and semi-colon, like this example (except I have left out the octothorpe (#) so that you can see the code): & 9829;

If you put the octothorpe in the space, the character will be displayed once you save your page and the browser processes the code. Whenever you are editing your page, however, you will always see the code and not the symbol.

Here are the codes for all the suits:

#9824 = ♠
#9827 = ♣
#9829 = ♥
#9830 = ♦
