there is a formula you can use to convert your percentage to the number you want:

part = percentage
-------- ----------------
whole 100

You know there are a total of 200 patrons so 200 is the WHOLE. You know you what to figure out what PART of those patrons are snowboarders so the PART is what you are trying to solve. you know 45% are snowboarders so you use 45 as the PERCENTAGE. your new equation:

part = 45
------- ----
200 100

Now to solve for the PART!

Cross multiply to get the part by itself and set those cross products equal. To do this you must multiply the numbers diagonal from each other. Therefore you will multiple 100 times part and set that equal to 200 times 45. Your new equation:

100(part) = 45(200)

This simplifies to:

100(part) = 9000

100 and part remember were multiplied together. To undo multiplication you must divide by 100 on both sides of the equation. This simplifies to:

part = 90

This means 90 of those patrons are expected to be snowboarders.
