They are calling my favorite band the sell out of the year...and I've been a fan since they have started! (fall out boy) they are not sell outs!

It means that the band no longer plays music that their loyal fans are used to. In order to become more popular, some bands start playing more "popular" types of music that more people might like. When bands do this, people sometimes say they are "selling out."

A sellout band is sometimes a band that changes their sound to be more radio-friendly or more for the masses. Basically to make more money. Like Metallica for example.

it means the band cares more about money and fame and not their fans. some people think bands are sellouts when they get played on mtv. but that isnt always true.

if a song is a sellout that either means it is old or people play it too much. just like the chicken head is almost a sellout

Abandoning their ideals & principles and playing anything that sells well, selling their principles out for the money obtained from the commercial act.
