I do have flat feet. I don't think there are any benefits to that. I can't wear high heels at all. My feet always hurt. I always have to buy good shoes with support.

Flat feet are a bit of a problem, but no real big deal. There are two arches in the foot. The big arch is between the heel and the toe. To help that one there are a lot of exercises you can do,- like picking up marbles with your toes barefoot, and walking barefoot on your toes some. It is usually best to NOT get an arch support for that arch, though you can if you want to. My feet are quite flat, and I never have felt the need to get that arch support. The other arch is called the "metatarsal arch" . Just behind your toes is the "ball" of your foot (that is the part that touchs the ground when you walk, so you can identify it, for it is the area with a callus.) Just behind that, on the area that does not touch the ground is where the metatarsal arch is. Those small bones are supposed to be arched up in the middle of the foot. An my foot, they are not. If I am on my feet all day, I need a metatarsal arch support. What I do, is I take 1/2" tape and start rolling it about 1/4" wide until I have a piece about 1/2" by 2/3" and about 1/8" thick, then I tape that to the middle of the bottom of my foot. (something about as big as 3 pennies, but tapered to all edges. Once I got a ruined shoe, and cut a piece out of the sole which was about 1/4" thick, the ground it down of a grinding wheel until it was about the size of a nickel and tapered to nothing on all edges. The thing with the metatarsal arch is that if you don't have one, the muscles of the foot cannot establish one, and so you NEED an artificial arch support. You can buy a metatarsal arch support at the store, but what is the fun of that?

I have flat feet.... very flat. I was a sprinter and a long distance runner. Flat feet in no way slows anyone down. I'm 34 and I ran 10 miles 2 days ago in under an hour. What flat feet does is give you posture problems and pain, its just an obstacle like anything else. Since a flat foot doesn't spring you as well as one that is arched... it plays havoc on your feet, legs, BACK, all the way up. Your gate is just more painful, but I blew away the competition when it came to running - has nothing to do with ability. It has to do with medical problems. Flat feet cause them. Its a dis-advantage to have flat feet - basically your gate(walk or stride) will never be like its supposed to and you will end up with pain and posture problems.

no... i have high arches and a high instep also.

high arches or flat feet affect how you step on your feet and that will determine how you wear your shoes out.
