Bet this is really un p.c but why are people so upset by the jeering at Saddams hanging? This is a man who personally hurled a man into a vat of boiling acid, and who ordered the death of thousands of innocents. He died according to the laws he passed... He who lives by the sword dies by the sword.... same goes for Bush and Blair btw... I'm ashamed about voting for Labour in '97.

Bobby T... do you really not know anything about the history of Saddams "reign"? It is a well documented fact, not only by British/Yank media, but by Iraqi citizens. Try doing some research before you post an answer.

I'm sorry, but how and where did you hear about Saddam "personally hurl[ing] a man into a vat of boiling acid"????

Were you there when it happened?

Basically, all we know about Saddam is what our BIAS media have told us. Who knows what he did, but that is a first about a boiling "vat" of acid.

What a pile of balls!

Question: If acid boils your skin at room temperature, why would you then need to go and further "boil" it??

Thank you for that. A great tit-bit of accurate information there.

To answer your question, even as$holes deserve dignity in death, otherwise we are just as bad as them. As Ghandi once said:

"An eye for eye will only make us all blind"...

And all i heard about Saddam that brands him an as$hole is using nerve gas on the Iranian's as well as killing political and civilian opponents. Whether he used nerve gas on his OWN people is another question. I mean, how do we KNOW he did it, considering it could quite easily be Western propaganda to make us all think he really is a "tyrant".

In my opinion and in todays world, you should be sceptical of, and question, everything. Never beleive a single word the media says - and remember, only about 4 different people own ALL of the worlds national and local newspapers and media outlets. You think this leads to fair, accurate news coverage do you??

The execution should have been something that put an end to Saddam chapter. But revengeful chants and all those 'pay back' comments incite farther conflicts between tribes and make the reconciliation effort tougher. That's why it is widely criticized, not because Saddam was a holy saint. His execution could have brought some closure, but instead ended up being possible catalyst for more violence and more ethnic division. It's not all about there's bad guy oh there he goes on death row. They're trying to bring 3 tribes together and seeing Saddam be put up as a war trophy is going to divide Iraqis farther apart. And that's going to keep us in there longer. Nobody says Saddam is a good person. That's not the point here. You're dead wrong if you think it is about whether Saddam deserves death penalty or not. It is about Iraqis resolving their ethinic division & tension that will out live Saddam.

Forget about P.C. I think the issue here is that many in the west and developed world do not support capital punishment any more, and those who do believe that it should be done "humanly" and "septic". Capital punishment can not be done humanly; it is inherently a inhumane act, period.

I don't like the fact that capital punishment exists in my country (America), but than that's what most Americans believe in so there you go; democracy! In most of the Muslim word capital punishment is common place. So as you say, Saddam experienced what he created, and what is considered routine in his culture.

Personally, I think Saddam was a victim of circumstances; he lead a country that needed to be ruled with an iron fist. We now see that his absence has created a power vacuum and civil war!

I believe they would have been better with Saddam in power than America running the show. A big mistake was made, and now it is all unraveling.

Perhaps voting Green is the way to go?

i don`t think anyone here has the right to judge if justice has been done that is for the victims .but as far as i`m concerned the whole trial was a travesty of justice those people jeering was`nt the victims .they where government officials
the real victims of the gassing were not given any kind of justice (they gave out an official statement saying this)
the trial was never about what happened to them and Saddam was neither charged or found guilty of it .
it was about killing members of the party who are in charge now (who tried to overthrow him )in other words a revenge killing exactly the same reason he had them killed )
These are the people behind the carnage now and the ones who are trying to cleanse Iraq of the Sunni Muslims and Christians who are the minority there
there has been more torture death and misery in Iraq in the last 3years than in 35 years under Saddam
no one is saying Saddam wasn't bad
but whats so clever about getting rid of a bad regime to make room for one that will not only be worse for Iraq but for the west aswell
no wonder we have the deafening silence from Phony Tony who seems to have gone to ground

I understand your argument. However, what is in fact gratuituous is not the fact that we are giving an evil man his 'just desserts' but instead that we are killing a person (though some might argue that Saddam is not a person). To kill a person, in its basic sense, is a deplorable act. A base act. Yet, we are doing it and approving of it in a twenty-first century society. Saddam deserved punishment, certainly. He deserved to pay for his countless crimes. But execution is not a punishment that forces people to pay - it is one that carries out in the most passionate and simplistic way, one's grievances. Instead, Saddam should live the rest of his life imprisoned and kept by the people he repressed - in that way, he will forever be put in his place within the confines of a lowly cell. As we have seen, the execution of Saddam has achieved nothing but his undeserved martyrdom.

I would suggest you do a little history on U.S. Presidents and you'll find Saddam was a choir boy in comparison. You might start with Lincoln's War of Extermination.
