I'm not sure which ones it was, but, all in one tank, I have a cichlid, 3 goldfish, and two rosy barbs. There were also three red tailed sharks, but the tank was becoming crowded so we moved one over to another tank to make sure it would get along with the frog and catfish. Earlier, I checked the the tank with the two sharks still in it, and the fish with large tails(i.e. all but the yellow cichlid), had had their tails nibbled on. Will the tails grow back, or will they always look torn up? Is there anything I should do to help the healing? All of the sharks are now with the frog and catfish, as they do not seem to mind eachother.

I'm sorry, are you serious? You have all these animals living together, you actually know what they are and you don't know what the problem is???

THEY ARE NOT COMPATIBLE!!

What type of cichlid FEW are able to live in community tanks and the ones that are are not commonly called cichlids. Like angles, rams, krebs and discus.
A most likely culprit. Also, need VERY differnt water conditions from the others. Even the peaceful ones are territorial to some degree.

Goldfish should only be kept in a species tank. They are cold water, they others aren't. Often get picked on by fin nippers.

Rosy barbs should be kept in a school, can be fin nippers and just as two their behaviour will be unpredictable.

Red-tail sharks (which aren't sharks btw) are NOT good in the first tank, COULD be ok with an African Dwarf Frog, but as for catfish - what kind of cat fish? There are 100's, most very different in everyway.

Are you telling me you're keeping a YELLOW cichlid with anything other then cichlids? If its yellow then I'd bet anything its an african. AGGRESSIVE!!! These are the MOST aggressive cichlids! I'm surprised anything else is alive.

Get the cichlid into an African cichlid only enviroment, fix up the other tank mate messes you have. Don't go back to the pet store idiots who sold you all these fish to live together. Double up on water conditioner with slime coat enhancer (Aqua Plus) and add some Melafix.

The fins and tail will grow back no problem. It will take a while. Watch out for fin rot or other infections

the one that is being eaten may be sick, right now. The best thing to do is to take the one being abused out of the tank and put in something like Ick away or some kind of anti-fungal medicine. Leave him out of the tank for about a week, and then put him back in there. My fish were doing this as well, and this is what the pet store owner told me, and it seemed to work. Good luck!

"Noota Oolah" is so very right on all accounts. I have several aquariums as well and one of my larger tanks is filled with African Cichlids. The only other fish I have in there is a Pleco and I'm luck that they leave him be to deal with algae. African Cichlids can only be tank mates with African Cichlids, they are very aggressive, cannibals that are overly territorial, and that isn't going to change. They are notorious fin nippers, they love to slam into the sides of prey, they chase and run ragged anything. Please understand that this type of fish is fed live feeder fish.... Good luck with your tanks and please get a special tank for the Cichlids..

fins grow back. scales don't. Cichlids can be quite agressive, and really are not for community tanks...just keep him with other cichlids...
