Any ideas how I could be more 'arty-farty' and impress my in-laws?

Buy yourself a red silk smoking jacket a fat cigar and walk around with your head tilted back 45 degree. Don't walk, swagger and mention lots of made up names and stuff you know about them. Make silly little comments and in a posh voice 'haw haw haw' at their jokes, well at anything they say. Be totally eccentric.

Arty farty? With mine a wasp in a jar and a bale of hay keeps them amused for hours, well, it doesn't put me out too much, they only visit once in a blue moon, usually when their doing their moonshine run over the border.

You should not have to take up something that is not a natural skill in order to impress your inlaws. Focus on what you ARE good at. If you actually want to do arts and crafts, then i would suggest browsing an arts and crafts store to see what appeals to you.

what sort of art are they interested in? Find out and then read up on it on google, so you can at least show an interest. But don't try to impress - they will see through any act.
Just be yourself and be genuinely interested in them and what they do and like.
good luck

It's "artsy-fartsy":) If you're asking this because you want to be able to converse with them regarding art, first find out their interest, be it painting, sculpture, etc. and the art movement their most interested in such as Impressionist, Surrealism, etc. Then just surf the net, there are hundreds of sites.

They'll know you're faking it and won't be at all impressed. Forget about the idea, and go with what's really you.

Tell them that their other daughters are gorgeous and you'd like to paint them in the nude (the sisters in law, not the parents in law).

Wear and beret and round sunglasses and a cravat. Talk all posh and you're sorted!

Paint you face and put on that ambiguous smile and walk around looking like Mona Lisa.

Don't bother. If they don't like the person you are they won't like a person you're just pretending to be.
