Why do some people think they're better than others?

Question

Just the other day I went out to a party at my friend's house and I met one of her other friends' there (who I know from before by the way), let's just call her Allie. Anyways, the host said something about how her best friend is of the same background as Allie and Allie said something like, yeah, but she's of a lower class than I am. We're the highest of them all, we're the originals and nobody is better than us. I found this statement kind of snobby and rude to the host. What do you think?

Although the person might be revealing herself as the "BETTER" person. The truth probably lies more in her trying to portray herself as the better person so that people will like her instead of the "BEST FRIEND". Either she has insecurities or she actually thinks that people care who is the higher vs lower class person. Some people live to be high class in which they feel puts them above the lower class person. In my opinion I enjoy the lower/middle class life and when I am at a "HIGH" class party I find myself wondering what's so great about it! That just seems to be the way most the world is today. I may be a low class loser but hey I'm sorry to say..I have the most fun :)

I don't so much think they think they are better. Generally, the majority of people who act superior are usually very insecure about themselves, and try to make it up by appearing to exude distain and superiority.
The best way to treat someone like that is to simply be kind - not necessarily agree with them, but be kind and move on. It will show them, if anything, that you won't take crap.

The comment that your acquaintance made was certainly rude, but also showed a total lack of maturity and intelligence. I would have simply looked her in the eye and smiled kindly and said "well, I suppose there is just no answer to that comment is there" and walked away to join someone else.

Because people want to believe there better than others because there really afraid that in "the real world" there nothing so if they go around stuffin peoples faces with the idea that they are somebody that it will become true. -I used to be kinda that way it was a small town then I moved to a big city and realized that it doesn't matter, you no one with out money and without a famous relative.

I think Allie is probably still about 14 mentally. She'll find out sometime, that she isn't really all that and a coke too. Probably come as a great shock and she'll end up depressed. If we're lucky, she'll be quiet about it.

cause their heads are filled with air and their insecure , have low self esteem also so they try to find a way to make themselves feel better even though they know its all lies

Because she has nothing better to do than think she`s cool. if ask me she just wants to see pain. that`s her enjoyment making others feel less confidence , like her.

Her family probably has lots of money and she can buy everything better than everyone else. I bet she is really pretty too.....most girls with money are pretty cause they have the money to make them super gorgous.
