Line 6 Spider has the best amp modeling on the market. It even has a large selection of cabinet models that actually sound like cabinet setups.( i.e., Marshall JCM2000 amp with 1 or 2 412 celstion cabinets.
For the guitar, you can't go wrong with a Fender Stratocaster, but you should also check into Ibanez and Kramer. Right now I'm partial to Kramer for the Quad-rail pickups. (Striker and Baretta Series)

In THAT price-range.. IF you can posssibly 'tweak' it, go after a genuine E.S.P.
-with the 'Vintage ' "gibson S.G" look, AND AC / DC sound; They are FAULTLESS!

But, should you wish to BE accoustic-electric: playing in the Rythum-section..
"Hands-Down", Man, you cannot possibly beat the new (Mahoigany-wood) Washburn
-with all the curly "antique"-Traditionalist scrolled capiz-inlay,
-so intricate, -on the elegant headstock.. (Really looks a Treat!) Naintindihan po nyo ba?

But then, again.. . . you MAY have to screw on a 'Dimazio' Italian-rock tight-wound pick-up.. (-to electrify the instrument..
Sooooo.. hmm.. Why not check-out an Ibinez semi-thin(ner) -bodied TWELVE-STRINGER -and leave (about 4 strings off?) Man, they DO look so damned-smart; in a band chasing the up-market "Beatles-in-Suits"-kinda look.. (just for when The President commands you -to perform at an afternoon Garden Party.. Well; NO percentage inna lookin' laark a buncha beggers! - Ha, ha!).

They've got a cut-away -so you can zip-up with Stratocaster sounds -on the instrumental middle-parts of yo' muzac.. oh, yes! (Still be "Stevie Vai" so conducive on a cut-away black Ibanez-12-stringed accoustic.) Just hurl 4, 0r 5 strings [off it] -'till, later it 'becomes-a-part-of YOU.

Look! In that vein o' instrument DO NOT toucha Yamaha -in !@.'12'! No!
(-Secretly: they sound like a 'cardboard box'!) -in comparrison with the identically-priced, Ibanez [thinner] '12'..
Ibanez -you'd know- has its OWN 200 year-old plantations.. of ALL THE right timbers: woods-fo' raaght sound: Yessir!
