Piggybacking on the American Revolution, the event showed the world that monarchies were NOT forever and could be overthrown. Peacefully or violently, the dictatorial tendencies of monarchies could be replaced. Unfortunately, shortly after the French Revolution came Karl Marx, and the dictatorship of the king was merely replaced with the dictatorship of the revolutionaries. In the end, the common person is still oppressed.
