I'm 15 years old.I'm moving to Chicago in 2009, thats when I graduate. I plan on attending ITT, UIC ,or CSU.I plan on visting next year when I'm 17. Where are good places to live near these colleges? Should I go on job interviews in Chicago in 09 to maintain my cost of living? I'm starting a bank account this summer, to like save and plus I'm getting another job.. I'll have help from 1 other person for sure. So what should an Ohio girl consider before moving to Chicago? All answers help

Yeah it can be expensive but Chicago is a great city and i'm sure you'll love it. We have a great public transportation/train system that goes all around the city, so you dont have to worry about driving-if that would be an issue. We have a lot of great neighborhoods, the summer is filled with festivals and things to do and see.
The northside would prob be a good area to live, downtown may be too expensive. Areas like Wicker Park, Logan Square, Andersonville-they all have access to the trains. If you go to UIC, there are building a lot of apartments in the area-so thats an option-University Village.
If you hate the cold (which coming from Ohio you must be used to it)....then Chicago is a bad option in that area.

First, the cost of living in Chicago is pretty expensive, so save as much as possible before you come and unless you have some financial support from your parents while you are there, you should probably plan on getting a job. There are lots of jobs available for students, and if you don't have a car, public transportation links are good to each of those schools.
You might also check out the "Lonely Planet" guide to Chicago. I've heard it's full of good information for newcomers to the city. There are also a couple of other guidebooks for people planning to move there that you can order on Amazon.
Last, be prepared for the weather! -- Although it's not that much different from Ohio.. just a bit more extreme in the summer and winter.
Good luck! I think you will like Chicago, it's an awesome city. Try and catch a couple of Bulls or Bears games while you are there if you get the chance... they are tons of fun!

If you plan to go to IIT, i would consider living in Bridgeport. You should expect to pay a minimum of $600+ in rent, if you're lucky. Rent around UIC is even more expensive, and the gentrification of Little italy, Pilsen and University Village is making apartments fairly expensive. If i were you i would consider living in the Dorms for at least 1 semester, then finding a roommate. Other than rent, food prices are average. Transportation is easy and if you're a full time college student you get a U-PASS for unlimited rides on Chicago's public transportation system ( trains and buses).

Chicago is not the cheapest choice. Room and board at colleges there will be more than at a comparable school in Ohio. Have you thought of going to Miami or Ohio U? They're great state schools, not too big.
Most colleges have plenty of jobs available. Be sure to do the FAFSA and apply for jobs on campus. They'll work around your schedule better than off-campus jobs.

my main concern is my church,id suggest you go to first baptist church of hammond,when im in that area thats where my family and i go.good luck in your move.
