One of my dogs had ear mites. We've dealt with this before, so I gave him the drops, but they kept coming back. Now my two dogs and three cats have them and I can't get rid of them!

I've treated all the animals' ears, given baths with flea shampoo, sprayed them with flea spray, washed every conceivable washable surface in my house (and car!) and they still have the mites. I'd like to avoid costly vet visits if possible, so is there anything else I can do at home to help this problem?

Thanks!

I've found that nothing works as quickly and as effectively as EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil). Using a cotton ball, rub it all over the inside of the ear...EVERYDAY until the mites are gone. Never takes long, and it is all natrual, affordable and effective. Your animals will thank you!

I had the same exact problem and mites cannot be rid of by 'wal-mart' drops. Revolution is the best possible and cured my cat almost instantly after she dealt with it for 3 years. It kills and prevents ear mites, fleas, ticks, and hookworms, and roundworms. You can buy it at the vets and get a dose for each pet, but instead of applying between the shoulders apply in and around the ears. The pink box is for puppies and cats, then it goes higher up for bigger dogs. It shouldn't cost very much, call before you go in and make an appointment as it is usually cheaper than if you just walk in. Just tell them you want to buy some revolution for your pets. then I suggest you AND your pets take a vacation somewhere (mom and dads house, or a friends will do) and bug bomb the house.

Sounds like you need to make a vet visit.

Ear mites can be treated over the counter, but it sounds like that is not working for you.

I could give you additional advice on ear mites, but it sounds like you've tried everything already.

Try taking one into the vet for a visit and explain the situation. A visit and medication should not be that costly. He/she may have recommendations for the others without you having to actually bring them in.

Also, use a separate bottle of ear mite medicine for each animal. If you do not, you could just keep spreading it back and forth between the animals.

Well you need to see your vet and if you can't afford for your pets you should get rid of them. Second of all some of the pet medication does sometimes loses its potency over a few weeks so you might need to get a new bottle. Third of all you should keep up with the medicine directions and put the animal in a head lock or put the animal in some way where you can directly get the medicine in, you should also you a cotton ball or q-tip to clean out the crevasses of the ear just becareful. Also it might be an infection not mites so check with your vet.

cleaning alone will not work. Mites can find their ways into the walls/subfloors of your home, where you cannot conceivably get to to clean. So my suggestion is to remove the pets and use a "bug bomb" The spray from these bombs penetrates into the walls and other areas you cannot see, thus killing the mites you cannot see!

Put the ear drops in and then put in a little cotton ball. Leave it there for about 1 minute. Put ear wash in. Dont let the animal shake its head for a minute or 2. Repeat at necessary

We've been having the same problem with our two dogs. They got them in Kentucky and they won't go away. The drops didn't work. We're probably going to the vet to see if it's something else. One of our dogs has scratched all the hair off his ear.
