Well when they are mensturating firstly. Probably around 16 or 17 youngest unless the gyno says otherwise. Birth control is usually only used to shorten periods or to reduce premenstural tension/syndrome in certain situations. It is primarily used to prevent pregnancy, though.

Only your doctor could answer this for certain, but I would say no girl should go on birth contreol pills just to shorten her period. The use of hormones does all kinds of things beside act as birth control and make periods lighter. Unless there's a medical reason to use medications then no age is the right age.

Birth control pills should only be used if you have trouble with your periods or you want to be on birth control. The side effects are many and they are linked to increase risk of many diseases like strokes and heart problems. I would not recommend using birth control unless you have preiod problems or want to help prevent pregnancy.
