In my opinion, Both of those antivirus programs are the same in the way that they do their job. What you have to consider is whether or not the program is free to use forever, or if it is free a certain amount of days. As for me, i have AVG, but i get a notice everytime i turn on my computer saying that it won't be free anymore on the 15th of this month. But i would suggest AVG because it is a user-friendly program; it is not a complicated antivirus program to use. Hope this helps. =)

I would not choose ether one! Norton is the best antivirus software! I have used many different types of antivirus and Norton is the best! I have had many people try to get a virus into my computer to no end but it never works because norton is always on it!

Avast has more features but I have always found it to slow my PC down a lot.

I use avg and also run an online scan at http://usa.kaspersky.com/services/free-virus-scanner.php just for a bit more security

Yup, AVG by Grisoft is definately "The Best"--NOT! Unfortunately one of the things it is not the best at is doing what is is supposed to do, detecting viruses!

In short, AVG is crap!

In test,

after test,
http://www.av-comparatives.org/
after test,

after test ,

after test,
http://www.pcworld.com/article/124475-1/article.html ,
etc. etc. etc, ad nauseam.

AVG has proven itself to be a mediocre performer at best. Missing almost 20%, while trying to detect known malware, in some tests. Not to mention almost non-existent heuristic detection and infrequent "once-a day" updates.

AVG = Average, at best!

Download one and use it for a week or two. Remove it and do the same with the other. Now you can choose the one you like best.

avg but be sure to download version 7.5

i'm not sure if they plan on including a spyware scanner on that but i also have adaware on my computer

both are free

edit-spyware, in excessive amounts, can be extremely destructive. it'll slow down your computer, and may cause pop-ups even when you're not online

a good tip-don't download anything from a site you can't trust! (such as smileycentral, or those free ringtones)
