Seriously. I see people messing around for hours on their Sidekicks when they could be actually speaking to each other. Plus, it's alot cheaper to talk than to text, so what's the deal? Am I missing something?

BTW, I do not text at all. I'd rather talk to someone than to a screen.

Exactly! If you have a phone, and the person you want to contact has a phone....why don't you just CALL them? Texting takes a while, there's a chance of spelling errors, and if you need to convey urgent information, the person may not read it in time.

But it's understandable if you text someone if you're bored in a meeting or school or something like that. Otherwise... annoying.

It's easier with things you wanna say sometimes... Plus you can get talked over on the phone... In a text the person has to read everything... Plus it's more convenient if the person is doing something else also.

It is less expensive for me to buy 1,000 text messages than to buy an extra 1,000 minutes a month. Plus, you can send a message to a friend, family member, co-worker, teacher, or anyone you may need to talk to during class, at work, when you are in a loud setting, during a movie, without someone sitting next to you hearing what you are saying, if you are angry and want to control yourself, if you are upset and crying, if you are almost out of daytime minutes but have purchased a cheap texting plan (they come as low as 1 cent per message if you buy a lot), while someone next to you is sleeping, from your computer to a cell phone if you don't have access to a phone, from your phone to a computer messaging program if your friend does not have access to a phone, to yourself as a reminder, to someone if they are busy but you don't want to forget to call them, if you have a sore throat, if you just dont feel like talking but need to tell someone something, if you or your friend is hearing impaired - mute- or has a speech impediment, if you want to send one message to several people quickly, or if you simply prefer to communicate by text rather than by speech. Believe it or not, some people just like sending messages, emails, letters, or texts, rather than talking!

I had my phone for 3 years and didn't even know it had text capability until someone sent me one. I'm too old to get the appeal of texting, it seems stupid to me.

It's fun and highly addictive. Sometimes silent words speak louder than spoken ones.

If you want a 'private conversation', texting is better.
Besides, if you have a good phone-plan, it's cheap enough.
