Does any one know where i can go in LA to register my business? areacode 90042?

You go to the county clerk's office with jurisdiction over your business location and file what they call a Fictitious Name Statement. It is your "doing business as" name, and you will need this whether you are a sole practitioner or a partnership. If you are forming a corporation, your lawyer will handle that part.

As to which office has jurisdiction, there are way too many for me to figure it out by the zip code alone. But the court's web site is listed below.

I know I found all that legal mumbojumo confusing when I was starting a business. I thought it would be easier for me to pay someone to do it.

They're also based in LA and they do pretty quick work. I paid about $150 and they took care of me. I got my Fictitious business name, they ran it in an advertisement in the newspaper, and I got my business license.
