Well, there's a totally fascinating "underwater city" near the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico (there was also a crater there from where the "dinosaur-killer" meteor was supposed to have landed. Or maybe it just caused a lot of destruction. Not sure.)
This city is apparently an underwater rock formation...that looks totally man-made. Roads, a stage like in a theater, remnants of what looks like buildings...it's amazing. I mean, it might not be Atlantis--it might just be natural. But it certainly is compelling.
Atlantis was traditionally thought to be somewhere around Britain. Hence, the "Atlantic" ocean. There's a Marion Zimmer Bradley book about Atlanteans who flee Atlantis and move to Britain to start what later became Avalon. Forget the name right now.
Check Plato, Zimmer Bradley, and the History Channel...interesting stuff!

greeks believed in atlantis and about a decade ago they found an island of the coast of greece. Half of the island had sunk when a volcano went off on it. So I guess you could say atlantis is real, but they didn't have all of this really modern technology.

They say it is was an advanced civilization 12000 years ago, that was brought under sea from huge tidal waves. Historians study this, and I think theres specifically a name for it called Atlantology. Legend has it there were also the lands of Mu and Lemuria. They say it was in the Altantic Ocean, and there were survivors that migrated to the Pacific, North America and Africa. They say the survivors are ancestors to the ENTIRE human race. It's definitely interesting, and told so well it seems like it could be factual, especially with evidence that been coming up. But who knows for sure

No one is sure. It may have been a story Plato made up, but he claims to have learned the story from Solon, who supposedly heard it from Egyptian priests during his travels.
There are many, many theories on where the city might have been if the story wasn't a put-on, ranging from Santorini, Greece to Antarctica, to the Americas. It's all interesting stuff, but it's just speculation, really.

Quite possible, the way tectonic plates move and earth quakes, and sea levels have changed through the ages, it is quite on the cards that a whole continent could disappear, just as some species have disappeared over the years, we just haven't found it yet.
