I don't have step by step instructions but you could probably find something on quilting by searching the web. I think this is a great idea for recycling old jeans. I might try this myself. I have never really quilted but I can sew really well. I would first decide on a design and lay it out on grid paper. I would then use this to cut out the fabric. I would think that designing and cutting it out would be the most difficult, the rest would be sewing it together, adding batting, a backing and quilting it. By using a double stitch, you could make the quilting look like the seams on the jeans.

Try a denim rag quilt. They are really easy, especially for beginning quilters. There's a link below that shows what the finished quilt looks like and provides step by step instructions.

My sister and I just finished making a jean quilt. We split the jeans in half so that you have the the front and back for each leg. then we evened them out and sewed them together. we left the waist bands and the seams in but to make it easier you could remove those. Use heavy weight thread and a neadle made to be used on jeans. If you have enough jeans you can make the front and back of your quilt the same. Good Luck

Ive made these are they are so easy to do. Ive included a link for a great site with good instructions. You need to get either a good pair of sewing scissors or get a rotary cutter and cutting mat. The rotary cutter is the best way to go, accurate cuts and easier on your hand. I would also get a 4-6 1/2 square ruler to get even more accurate cuts. Hope this helps...http://www.thefamilyhomestead.com/bluejeanquiltproject.htm
