iPod right now is the best but pretty soon Microsoft's Zune will be better (once they get a better music downloading service). It's the same price as the 30 gig ipod, has the same amount of music memory, but lets you both download videos and create your own-and has more video memory.
not to mention the wirelesss sharing of some songs/videos, and all videos recorded by you

It depends. In terms of simplicity of use its probably the ipod. But if you find you your entire music collection in windows media player in the wma format you should probably go for the zen. The zen is also better for videos as it accepts a lot of file types and the ipod simply doesnt(i think about two or something) so if you downloaded divx clip off limewire you can watch on the zen straight without the long and tedious conversion process.
In terms of looks, its totally subjective, and you should ask with someone or a store to have a feel for both of them to see which one feels better.
In terms of software itunes is really easy to use and works with iPod seamlessly and is probably the best reason to get an ipod. Although the new windows media player is up to par with itunes, itunes still has it down properly. You have ur podcast subscriptions, and itunes downloaded content in one program.
To sum it up, if you are going to watch a lot of videos and want native video playback get a zen, if you are worried about simplicity, and mainly wanting music and a little video get an ipod.
But you wouldnt regret getting either of them. I own both and I say they about 50-50, as zen supports more file types and more flexible content wise and also has a radio, the ipod is also far simpler to use and itunes!. it depends on how you are going to use it. I wouldnt say one is better than the other.

it has more features: fm radio, voice recorder, what the ipod has all together in a great mp3 player
