Pandora ("all gifted") was the first woman, fashioned by Zeus as part of the punishment of mankind for Prometheus' theft of the secret of fire. According to the myth, Pandora opened a container releasing all the miseries of mankind—greed, vanity, slander, envy, pining—leaving only hope inside.

prometheus stole fire from the greek gods and gave it to humans, Zeus punished humanity by giving them Pandora and a box he told her never to open. He also gave pandora a huge curiousty. SHe eventually opened the box and unleashed the seven sins on the earth. THen zues flooded the earth, and made a new humanity out of stone. THe stone humans (us) can resist the sins more easily than our clay ancestors.
