probably because of all the movies, and like the Mars movie, where the aliens attack us. that is most likely why.

We have no desire to destroy you, you are doing such a good job of that yourselves. If we were inclined to destroy you, which we aren't, we would just redirect a couple of medium sized asteroids to smash into Earth and come back in a hundred years with a clean up team. Over the centuries, your planet was a curious place to visit once or twice and was not considered very interesting . Sure, your wars showed us how undeveloped you are as a species. Your infantile,(in cosmic terms) dependence on god concepts does not bode well for you and neither does your penchant to breed beyond your planet's ability to sustain you. We are now showing an interest in you because it is not often that we get to observe a species commit suicide. You are so close to maturing as a sentient species and it will be a shame to see you kill yourselves. There are just not enough of you becoming rational enough to force the issue. You let the least among you determine your fate, so be it.

Not everyone assumes that. You can find novels out there that tells of aliens so advanced that they either leave us to progress on our own, or completely ignore us. Of course, when they don't ignore us, there will always be a tendency wherein one or the other culture will exert a greater influence over the other -- and usually, it will be the more advanced and experienced one that exerts this influence (meaning, possibly the aliens).

Alternatively, assuming aliens use the same economic concepts as ours and are driven by the same expansionary impulses as us, one would expect an alien culture to want a "return on investment" for their expeditionary efforts. Hence, expect them to do something that will benefit them - although this does not necessarily mean getting us destroyed, maybe just "used" at best.

I believe that this is people projecting their own consciousness onto the unknown. When people discovered new lands they destroyed the existing civilization, so when Extra Terrestrials discover a new planet they must destroy the existing civilization too. Maybe if they can travel long distances through space they will be more evolved and not choose a destructive path, if they exist & arrive.

The way human beings live is by destroying other lives in the nature. Knowing what we are, we expect the same response from others(aliens) who we assume have superior technology.

Maybe they would want to destroy us before we get a chance to venture out into the universe and make a mess of that too.Just look at the condition of our planet. We obviously have no respect for our own world, could we be expected to respect another??Not at our current level of evolution.

Because that is what we as humans would (probably) do. We are the most unecessarily violent creature in nature yet do not realize this. Other animals do not kill for sport, or get into fights for the heck of it. Just us. Therefore, as a defense mechanism, humans assume that the unknown is as much or more dangerous than we are ourselves.

Because of the same reason as you kill a bath bug. If they are able to cross the galaxy and reach our planet they are superior to us and therefor have the right of destroying us for their own benefit

There are too many assumptions. we would desire to play "what-if" video games all day, yet that would desire to be pointless. you're assuming aliens even exist. enable's commence with the aid of validating that assumption.

Chances are we would try to destroy them!! Hell, we destroy each other and they would be an even bigger target as they would be much more different.

Humans are the assholes of the universe.
