An indictment is the finding of sufficient evidence to proceed against an accused person. This is usually done by a grand jury but somes states require only a complaint to be filed by the prosecutor. The formal charge is not made until an arraignment and plea hearing which happens after the indictment.

It means people have found probable cause to have you charged and tried in a court of law, which satisfies the constitution! They then hand down the indictment to have you arrested and tried!
