one of the best is tree ear mushrooms often found in hot and sour soup..see Jean Carpers book "food your miracle medicine" for a list of many others. I think cold water fish like salmon and mackeral and garlic were listed.

Foods that contain salycilates - that block vitamin K action - can cause the blood to be thinner. This includes most fruits (especially dried) and several spices, including cayenne pepper, cinnamon & ginger.

Cold water fish contain high amounts of Omega 3 fatty acids, known to keep the blood thin. Some of them are tuna, salmon & cod.

Vitamin E also interferes with the action of vitamin K, so thins the blood. Some food sources are wheat germ, nuts & seeds, cold-pressed vegetable oil, whole grains, sweet potatoes, beans, brown rice.

Green leafy vegetables have vitamin E but they also have abundant vitamin K, so probably would not thin the blood. As a matter of fact, some doctors warn patients on blood thinners to avoid them because they might counteract the medicine's desired effect.

Other foods known to be blood thinners are onions, garlic, olive oil and jicama root.

I am on Coumadin so have been told to avoid leafy green (spinach, turnip & mustard greens) and anything from the "cole" family (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage) veggies because they will THICKEN the blood. Best natural thinner is garlic, followed by onions.
