Unless you are performing on a cruise ship singing 70's disco tunes, nix the boa.

Awesome! Yes, go ahead and wear it, it's right in line with the theme. Get a little sequin clutch purse and do your hair up in a Thirties style.

You could even go so far as to buy -- or at least simulate -- stockings with a seam up the back. My grandmother (who was a young woman in the Thirties) used to say that when she'd go out on the town, she would take an eyebrow pencil and DRAW the "seam" up the back of her legs to make it LOOK like she was wearing stockings -- remembering of course that the Thirties were also the Great Depression, and nylon hadn't been invented yet (well, not till 1937), so stockings were real silk.

And as a couple of other people have suggested, if you arrive and it appears that the boa would be out of place, you can always leave it at the door. However, don't forget that style isn't about wearing what everyone else is -- true style is about wearing what makes a statement about YOU that is different from everyone else.

One final tip: feather boas tend to shed something awful, so you might be best picking a black boa so that when the tips break off the feathers, they won't make you look like you've been rolled in coconut.

(The dance number where Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers dance to "Cheek to Cheek" demonstrates this -- Ginger is wearing a gown she designed, covered with marabou feathers from top to bottom, and as Fred swirls her, pieces of the feathers keep breaking off and slowly fluttering to the ground. I understand Fred HATED that dress, and I can understand why.)

Have fun! And if you decide not to do the boa, you could always wear green makeup with the black dress and go as Elphaba from "Wicked." Learn the lyrics to "Defying Gravity" and knock 'em dead!
