I am sure I read in a recent article that around 1000 features are made per year. But this does not mean the same release/distribution that are typical in North America. Some of these films have a short release to cinemas and are quickly replaced by another.

I guess 700-800 per year on average including all languages and regional films.

Hundreds. They love their cinema. Because up until recently Hollywood films or anything from the west were banned, they made their own versions coining the phrase 'Bollywood'.
