Assuming that the 1490 is out of 1600, that is pretty good. Until recently, the GRE was out of 2400 -- so a 1490 wouldn't have been that great.

But genius? It depends on your definition. Assuming you would have done well on the third portion, It would have been good enough to get into Mensa a few years ago.

If you are interested, there ar eseveral IQ tests that you acn take online that will give you a better idea where you stand. My giess is that you are certainly in the top 2% in intelligence and possibly in the top 1%.

If you're willing to accept American Mensa standards, then a to qualify for membership you'd need a score of at least 1875 (math + verbal + analytical) to join the society. Mensa accepted the top two percentile ranks until 2001 as qualifying scores on the GRE; they no longer accept the test as a one that qualifies an individual for membership.
