find the slope which is, y2-y1/x2-x1, then plug into point slope equation, y-y1=m(x-x1), solve and you should get y=8/9x+ 8.556, the 8.556 may need to be in fraction form depending on the teacher, let me know and i will convert it for you.

Equation : < y = slope * x + intercept>

1. find the slope of the two points
slope = -5-3/4-(-5) = -8/9

2. Equation : y = (-8/9)x + intercept

3. Pick a coordinate and sub into the equation
Equation : 3 = (-8/9)(-5) + intercept

4. Find the intercept
3 = (-8/9)(-5) + intercept
3 = 4/4/9 + intercept
-1/4/9 = intercept

5. Sub into the equation
y = (-8/9)x -1/4/9

Okay, first you need to find the slope.
The formula for slope is (Difference in Y) / (Difference in X)
Picking (4,-5) as the first point and (-5,3) as the second point:
The difference in Y is -5 - 3 = -8
The difference in X is 4 - (-5) = 9
So the slope is -8/9
The equation is y = (-8/9)x + C (C is the intercept, we have to figure that out now)

To get the intercept, we take our equation and plug in one of the points. We'll use (-5,3).
3 = (-8/9)*-5 + C
3 = 40/9 + C
3 - 40/9 = C
27/9 - 40/9 = C
-13/9 = C

Now that we have C, we have the entire equation

Y = (-8/9)X - 13/9

lol, i just learned this, well not learned but we just review this chapter for an upcoming test.
First you must find the slope
(Y2-Y1)/(X2-X1)
(5-3)/4-(-5)
2/9 <-- leave as a fraction. This is your slope.
Second you plug you information into the point slope form.
Y-Y1=m (X-X1)
y-3=2/9[X-(-5)]
y-3=2/9[x+5]
y-3=2/9x+10/9
Third is the slope intercept form (but its basically continuing to simplify the point slope form.)
y-3=2/9x+10/9
y=2/9x+37/9
Ok now your done!
If you want to do the standard (Ax+By=C) form you do this:
y=2/9x+37/9
9[-2/9x+y=37/9]
-2x+9y=37
there is your standard form!
