You have heard where to get them. Now I just want to add, they stink. Not a little bit, a lot. It is nearly impossible to walk into a home that has ferrets, and not smell them. Yes, they are always descented, you can bathe them once a month. But they REEK. It's this dusky, musty, woodsy, dirty stink. If you are ever hoping to date, don't get a ferret.

Oh, and they poo. Not cleanish raisin like guinea pig poos that you can pick up and trash. They poop like a puppy, messy and wet and stinky. And while they can be litter trained, it's a LONG way to go to get to that point. And they poop constantly! Very expensive.

I recommend at least babysitting a ferret for a while before you go to that expense.

Try petfinder.com.

First off, please realize that ferrets are illeagle in CA. You will be fined and your ferret will be confiscated if you are caught with one.

Now for a little lecutre.

If you are a first time ferret owner, PLEASE do your research before getting a ferret. Make sure that you have a vet in your area, make that a GOOD vet, that will see ferrets. Please learn about all the bad things that come with owning a ferret. I say to learn the bad things, since usually the good things are common sense and easy to handle. Knowing about the bad things ahead of time will make it a lot easier to get through them when you have to deal with them.

Ferrets are very high maintenance pets. They are also VERY expensive. My last vet bill cost me close to $500. I have had vet bills that high quite a few times this past year. Ferrets are very prone to medical problems. Almost every ferret by the age of three suffers from one or more of these problems. Some of the problems do have treatments, but some treatments last the rest of the ferrets life.

Get online and google "ferret information". One of the sites that I like to give out is www.ferretfacts.com.

Also, I may not live anywhere near you, but feel free to e-mail me with any questions about owning a ferret. I have ALOT of experience with the good and bad times and am more then willing to share what I have learned through the years.

I don't know where you can find a pet shop in California but I got my ferrets from PetSmart and they also sell them at PetCo. You can find them at mostly any general pet store or go to a pet store and ask if they can get a ferret for you.
But make sure you are ready for a ferret, they are a lot of work!

Ferrets are not legally sold in California.

You'd have to go to Nevada for purchase and veterinary care.
