Most dorms do not allow animals (perhaps some fish). The only way to have a pet and attend school is to live off campus. The first year is a lot different for everyone, for me it was not stressful since I was talking college classes during my senior high school as well as managing to go to 4 different schools and work part time for an internship (2 colleges, my regular high school, night school to catch up due to behind behind from transferring to a magnent school). So to me my first year of college was easy.
That's pretty much the only way to have a pet though, is to live off campus. Personally you might want to live on campus for the first year so you can get to know people, make friends, make connections with different groups, live the "college life" instead of live off campus isolated with your pets. Everyone I know lived on campus the first year and moved off campus with friends and they said that the first year was worth it.
Perhaps you can find a friend or family member to take care of your pet for the first time you are away at school, and then when you get to your second year take over and have your pet. That also works. Don't worry it'll work out and Good Luck.

Most dorms do not allow pets the first year because you are supposed to be concentrating on your studies, not on caregiving someone else. You will come in contact with some pretty horrible people who do not feel as you do about animals--who see animals as just another thing to have "fun" with. I've seen people's pets become drug experiments, mircorwave experiments, "what would happen if you add a pint of Jack Daniels to this fish tank..." People in college often become real selfish and stupid. One year without a pet should NOT be a big deal--one of the reasons you are going to college is to get out of the old comfortable situations you've grown up with to find out more about yourself. If after you start college and you find you really cannot live without furry contact, you can maybe help a faculty member care for their home pets (this is what my niece is doing--walking and playing with a teacher's dog every day since the teacher can't take the time). Or you can find the local SPCA and volunteer there, maybe (if the dorm permits) even foster. It's part of growing up: you cannot have everything your way all the time and sometimes you have to compromise.

ALL college dorms do not allow pets. Most allow fish though.
It makes sense...I mean, who is allergic to aquarium fish? But others have allergies to dogs, cats, rodents, etc. and it's not fair to those living around you to have animals. And others may just not want to deal with the smell or noise.
As much as I love them and you may love them, when you are living with other people you have to respect that. No one is going to die without a pet.
If your school allows fish, try getting one. You'd be surprised how attached you get. I had a Betta throughout my undergrad that lived forever (actually, he's still alive).
If you cannot have fish either, respect that and get an animal when you have your own place one day.
Don't try sneaking in animals, aside from that being against the rules, as I said it's really disrespectful to those living around you. Plus, I knew a person that had a hamster in their dorm and their RA took it from them. No one knows what became of it.

Your first year of college is really very stressful and chaotic. I would suggest getting a fish and going to this college. Give yourself that first year to figure everything out, then move off campus the next year and enjoy your pets. Sophomore year is a lot less stressful, and you'll be able to have fun with your pets. Having pets your freshman year is really hard on you because its one more thing that you have to worry about. Go to the college, enjoy your first year, and take your pets up next year.

I know it's out of country but Guelph University in Ontario is awesome. They allow everyones animals. Or boarding your horse out, but having him at a place near the college would work if you have the cash and car to get there.
