I was watching a Martha Stewart Wedding Ideas DVD and she said you should put wires in flowers with thicker stems...any one know why?

Thicker stems are more brittle and more likey to break than bend . It help prevent the larger stems from breaking off and falling off the bouquet

they are were used for support, give you the ability to still keep the heads of the flower in your bouquet if they accidently do break off throughout the day.. Be sure to add the florist tape for more support and to hide the wire and protect the wire from scratching you with the end points.

To give it support to make sure it stays where it's supposed to.

for support that way they won't be falling over or breaking easily.
