maybe it's something that just never or rarely happens...I don't know, maybe it's not even an issue, but when was the last time you saw black parents with a white child. Is it a racist thing? I'm also thinking here about different white celebrities who have adopted white, chinese, vietnamese and black kids.

I think it rarely happens, mostly because 'healthy white babies' are in demand and even white couples have a hard time adopting them because there aren't as many. There are more black kids that need homes than black parents that are willing to adopt. That's why you see so many white parents with adopted kids who aren't white. For example, there may be a 3 year waiting list for a healthy white baby, but you can get another race a lot faster. It's just the way it is. If there's anything racist about it, it's that black children aren't as much 'in demand' as white kids, mainly because white couples seem to adopt more often. When they 'run out' of white babies, a lot of white people start adopting out of their race.

There are a lot of decent people who chose to adopt the kids who are most in need. Honestly, white babies are in a much better position that babies of other races.

There're no longer any legal barriers or social stigmas in the US that may prevent qualified adults from any race to adopt available children from any race.

Usually though, there are more qualifed and willing adults from a more prosporous segment of the society ( traditionally it's been among the whites in the US) that want to adopt and there are more children from the poorer segment of the society (traditionally it's been among the blacks in the US) that are available for adoption. In recent decades, these children have also come from the poorer and/or overpopulated countries of Europe amd Asia. That explains why you see more white parents with black or Asian adoptive children but rarely if ever the other way around.

As the Asian population in the US becomes more and more prosporous and cosmopolitain (i.e. extending their charities beyond their ethnic community), you'll see more and more Asian-American parents with adoptive children of Caucasian and other races. Scott Fujita, the OLB for the New Orleans Saints is 100% Caucasian by ethnicity but he calls an Asian couple his own parents (said he has no other parents) and bears their last name, having been adopted as an infant by a Japanese-American couple.

Since there are still many more black and Asian children in the world that need (and available for ) adoption than Caucasian children and because black and Asian prospective parents feel they need to take care of those in need first, especially children from their own ethnicity, you'll continue to see more Caucasian parents adopting black/Asian children than the other way around for the seeable future.

I know people who are white and adopted a black baby. Why? Because there is a two year waiting list for white babies and a 6 month waiting list for black babies.

Why the difference -I'm not sure. Are unwanted white baby's more likely to be aborted? Are there more white couples looking to adopt than black couples? I don't know.

But back to your question. It ok for a black couple to adopt a white baby, but why would they if it meant waiting an extra year and a half.

First of all, you are not racist. You asked a question that has been burning in most Black people's minds for a while. It seems to me that rich blacks can adopt kids. (Nicole Richie/Lionel Richie). It goes to show racism still favors the Whites. Pity.

In the U.S. the sad facts are that there are more black children available for adoption than there are black families looking to adopt, and fewer white children than there are white families looking to adopt. In a color-blind adoption process there would always be more white families adopting black children than black families adopting white children.

If the adoption process is not color blind, then it is possible that there would be white families adopting white, black, plaid and any other color children, while black families would be adopting exclusively black children. I thus suspect thaqt the adoption process is not color blind.

I know several black families who adopt white children. Maybe it doesn't happen often but I know it happens. I also know a black family who adopted a chinese child.

Don't know where you got this one from but in the UK social services will not let whites foster or adopt coloured children. That's a fact !!
You can if you are homosexual of any colour though as the SS will be afraid of falling foul of the anti-discriminations laws brought in by Bliar and Co.

I think it's okay for them to do so.

The demand for white children is greater for some reason, and there are fewer of them up for adoption. Maybe it's just easier for couples of any race to adopt black children.

I think there are many more non=white kids that need a home. Can you imagine the uproar if Denzel, let's say, adopts a white kid? He would be picketed by Al sharpton!
