They may be left up longer if you like. There are no set rules. Waiting until after 12th night is one of our Anglican traditions, but again not in stone. Most I know will take their decorations down sometime in the next two weeks--mine later this week.

It's an extremely old superstition.

Apparently, if your Christmas Decorations are not taken down and put away by 12th night, imps and goblins come into the house and cause mischief. They also bring bad luck.

They must be doing it now in my house because we haven't taken our tree down yet!!! We can't be bothered. Might just leave it up til next year!

must they?

The twelth night is meant to be when the three kings came. There are thus twelve days of Christmas, from the birth till the kings/wise men gave baby Jesus their presents.

It's also just annoying to have them up forever. If they're up too long, then it's no longer as special. Besides, it's time to get ready for Valentine's day.

i don't comprehend anybody it incredibly is superstitious relating to the decorations "might desire to be down". i comprehend fairly some people who elect them down and in many cases take them down the weekend ofter Christmas as a remember of practicality. for my area my back porch gentle would be up and working until a minimum of Day gentle decrease value fees time. and my on the main up-tp-date cut-off date fro getting my tree down is Palm Sunday - however i actually do attempt to get it down with the aid of Lent. This 3 hundred and sixty 5 days it probable would be 2/9 as i don't have something on that Saturday.

there's a superstition that it's bad luck not to. I don't blieve in superstitions. However, I do take mine down, just following tradition. it's probably because this is the end of the christmas period. 6th Dec is the feast of Epiphany, which marks the start of another church season.
hope you had a good christmas - happy new year.

It's supposed to be unlucky to leave them up so if you're not superstitious don't worry about it, take them down when you like. Actually I normally take mine down on 2nd........but I haven't yet got home after Christmas so unless my husband has done it....which I doubt, they are probably still up.
