When I connect my ipod to my laptop to charge and update, the message and red cross-through symbol (do not disconnect) that flash do not disappear even after it has finished updating, and only disappear when I disconnect the ipod. Is this normal, and can I stop it happening?!

This is NORMAL -
To make it stop, click on the little arrow thing (eject button) next to your iPod on iTunes and this will eject your iPod safely.

yeah its normal, sometimes it takes all day!
Dont ever disconnect while it is on the ipood display, you could wipe all the music.

you have to press the eject button on the screen it took me ages to fathom it out.
