If you are wanting to know how much current is used for correct fuse rating, then note the mains voltage and the wattage of the appliance, then watts divided by voltage equals amps.
eg. a 2 kilowatt kettle uses about approximately 8 amps
(2000 divided by 250 = 8)
Large appliances have a rating plate on them, perhaps at back or underneath.
If it's cost you want to know, then I would work it out from your electricity meter.

check your local TV listing - myth busters had a segment on that about two weeks ago - they had something that you could use in between that wall socket and the item that will tell you how much electric it is using
