you will basiclaly need it for word processing and the internet for research - so you will nto need a lot of ram or a cd-birner, necessarily so you can save money by buying a basic model - like a compaq or hp laptop - you can easily get a nice one, with dsome extras, like a dvd player or cd burner for under 1000 - walmart, dell online, compaq retailers are good bets..

It all depends o what you want/ need. Some programs only work on Microsoft, some only on Apple's.
Obviusly the Internet, but what else? Microsoft Office? If you only need Word, most computers come with some sort of Word Proccessor, even if it is cheep. What are you studying? etc.

My husband and I both have used ibooks from Apple. They are so easy to use, and you can get new software to go on them. They run for a few hundred dollars.

You'll want a word processing program, probably Word.

Check with your university. Sometimes they have special offers/ deals with Dell, etc.
